Santa Barbara I Madonnari Festival, May 2009
We decided to move up to a larger square in Santa Barbara this year, which meant that we no longer sponsored our own square (we'll be sponsoring a square in San Luis Obispo instead). We were fortunate and got a 12x12 square sponsored by Howard Gross, MD, a local plastic surgeon. He requested that the square's subject be a pretty woman, so we suggested this self-portrait photo by our online friend Coyote.

Magical Mystery Tour by Coyote
During the weekend, we were aided in our efforts by our crack staff: Wayne's brother David, his cousin Steve's kids Megan and Jack, and our new friend Thomas, whose mother works for Dr. Gross. Megan and Jack proved to be excellent at marbling, David "carved" the doctor's name like a pro, and Thomas took to everything we threw at him (including the pillow).

Saturday morning through the fisheye lens.

The first eye is complete.

Thomas works on the pillow.

Cheryl works on the upper face. Note that the eyes follow you.

Jack and Megan pounce the hair with help from Wayne and Cheryl.

David "chisels" the sponsor's name

Wayne paints the hair.

Cheryl works on the title.
