San Luis Obispo I Madonnari Festival--September 2005
We were invited to be artists at the San Luis Obispo I Madonnari this year, and as Cal Poly alumni with fond memories of the area, we couldn't say no. The festival was held over the weekend of Sept. 17-18, two weeks after Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana and Mississippi, particularly New Orleans. We decided to honor New Orleans with a jazz funeral and a promise of rebirth.

Cheryl starts with the face, underpainting with purple and orange.

Cheryl underpaints the black hat with green to add depth to the color.

Wayne paints the letters on the sousaphone horn.
